Why LSK Needs Maria Mbeneka As Its President

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Presidential elections are fast approaching and the ground has already been set in motion. Some are calling it a “do-or-die” race because of the “bigwigs” in the ring.

Both online and offline, the stones are rolling, tongues are wagging and divergent views and ideas are flowing around. Things kwa ground are boiling.

For years, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has positioned itself as a champion of peace, the voice of the voiceless and a defender of the constitution of Kenya. It is a movement of brains.

Although many people believe that it is the Judiciary that interprets the law, methinks without lawyers, the law loses meaning. The society, therefore, is not just for lawyers but for all Kenyans in general.

As the campaigns for the LSK Presidency gain momentum, I had a chat with one of the contestants and I dare say, she is an iron that the society needs to sustain its sharpness. She is firm, authoritative and accommodative.

Am talking about Maria Mbeneka, a lawyer who is focused and up to the task ahead of her. She  is a true silent river that is always deep with knowledge and power.

Why do I think LSK needs this lady as the President you ask? Oh please. Sit back and let me give you some of her five attributes.

Maria Mbeneka is sober. She says what she means and means what she says. She does not tackle an issue without first looking into it and having enough roots to support her claims.

She is articulate. You should listen to her talk. She doesn’t speak much but when she does, her points are always straightforward, clear and precise.

The lady is independent. LSK needs someone who is not affiliated to anybody or anything for it to always remain neutral and champion for the welfare of the members and for its mandate.

Innovative and inclusive. Her dream is to see one society. A society that is free and fair for everyone. A society that will thrive on innovative ideas and inclusive of everyone.

Maria Mbeneka is competent and I believe she has the knowledge and skill to take LSK to the next level.

A time for a change is here. A time to make the right choices.
