24 People, 500Million Animals Burnt to Ashes in Australia’s Ongoing Wildfire

Australia continues to be ravaged by the worst wildfires it has had to experience in decades making it a constant headliner for the last six months.

Every year Australia experiences a fire season during the summer, with hot, dry weather which makes it easy for fire to start and spread, Australia has hence been experiencing the fires annually.

Lightning strikes in drought-affected forests as experienced in Victoria’s East Gippsland region in late December 2019, which later spread to more than 20 kilometers in a short five hours, according to the State Agency Victoria Emergency.

Deaths Caused by the Wildfires in Australia

In 2009, a fire season in Australia led to 173 deaths in Victoria marking it as the deadliest bushfire disaster ever.

In 2019, a decade since the worst wildfire in 2009, Australia has found itself faced with another devastating wildfire that threatens to tear it apart unless winter comes through soon as the fanning flames are making it extra difficult for firefighters.

Strong winds have been blamed for the wild spread of the flames leading to fatalities and massive property destruction.

Areas That Have Been Affected by the Australian Wildfire

Australia is experiencing one of the worst wildfires it has had to in decades since late July when the fire season began.

Every Australian state has experienced the fires without sparing Australia’s largest cities such as Sydney and Melbourne where homes have been turned to ashes.

New South Wales has been the hardest hit as the flames tear up the bushes, wooded areas, and national parks like the Blue Mountains where animals have not been spared from the wrath of the wild flames.

Cities such as Sydney were blanketed by smoke and fire early December 2019 extremely making the air hazardous.

Consequences of Australia’s Wildfires Since 2019

The fire that started late July 2019 and has continued to rage on has killed 24 people in Australia so far and more than 500 million animals.

The Australian wildfire has also consumed over 1,300 houses in the state of New South Wales (NSW) alone with the flames raging dangerously making it difficult for the firefighters despite intervention by the United States.

Over 14.7 million acres of land have been burned across Australia’s six states. The New South Wales, which is the hardest hit, has 8.9 million acres burned to ashes.

Drought, persistent hot weather conditions that result to drought are not making the situation easier.
