Expect Instant Tax Compliance Certificates From Now on – KRA

Have you ever needed a tax compliance certificate instantly but couldn’t due to the amount of time that it takes to process on from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)?

Well, this is about to change because KRA will from now on issue tax compliance certificates on the spot after applying.

KRA has rolled out a simplified self-service application process for applying for Tax Compliance Certificates on the iTax portal.

While this is good news for tax payers, the instant tax compliance certificates will only be available to those who have a clean tax record.

The initiative, according to the KRA aims at enhancing transparency and efficiency in the issuance of the crucial documents.

The new plan will reduce the time it takes for a tax compliance certificate to be processed and sent to the applicant from a few days to a few minutes.

The automated system was rolled out on the 15^th of January 2020, and according to the KRA, more than 15,000 certificates have been issued, indicating the high success rate of the initiative.

For those tax payers who have outstanding tax liabilities, KRA has said that before applying for the certificate, they will be required to clear their liabilities first or apply for a payment plan on iTax to clear their liabilities.
