The entire government in Russia has resigned, led by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in a surprising announcement made on Wednesday.
The resignation of the entire government in Russia came a few moments after President Vladimir Putin proposed sweeping reforms to the constitution that could see him consolidate power and weaken his opponents.
Political analysts around the world say President Putin might be planning to become a powerful Prime Minister beyond his presidency or scrap the position of the Prime Minister and become the sole center of power in Russia.
According to President Putin, in thanking the ‘government for resigning,’ said that not “everything worked out” and said that he was planning to meet with each member of the cabinet.
The proposed changes by Putin aims at taking power from the presidency and handing it to the parliament, signaling a power shift that has been speculated over a long time. This would also mean that Put will not need permission from Russians to rule as he will have power over a parliament that would be mandated to “elect him.”

The presidency of Putin is expected to come to an end in 2024 and critics see his move as a way of circumventing a constitutional provision that bars him from contesting again. In 2018, Putin cunningly swapped places with the Prime Minister to evade the constitutional requirement that barred the same person from running for presidency after two terms.
President Putin “outlined a number of fundamental changes to the constitution, significant changes not only to a number of articles of the constitution but also to the balance of power as a whole,” said the outgoing Prime Minister.
Vladimir Put is known for his brutality while dealing with his critics and for years, he has ruled with an iron fist, crushing everyone who dared stood on his way.
