An elderly German tourist was yesterday, 28th January 2020, found dead under unclear circumstances in a hotel room in Malindi town.

Deterring Herman, a 78-year-old is said to have gone to sleep in the company of his girlfriend on Monday night the 27th of January 2020 at 1 am after drinking and chewing miraa.

“We are treating the girlfriend as a key suspect in the murder case as she escaped and is still on the run-up to now,” Vitalis Otieno the Malindi OCPD told members of the fourth estate.

Otieno, the Malindi OCPD said there were suspicions that the elderly male German tourists were murdered and that the scene had markings of a scuffle.

“This is because he had injuries on the head and stomach and there was also blood all over,” said Otieno.

The hotel staff, according to Otieno, had to use a spare key to access the room where the body of the German tourist was, raising more suspicion as the door was closed from the outside.

Herman, according to Kelly Kazungu, the manager of Moriema cottages where Herman lived, had rented the room for two months and used to pay on a monthly basis.

Kazungu says they found the body of the German tourist in a pool of blood with severe cuts all over the body.

“..so most of the time he used to have his own keys. On that day, Herman drunk with his girlfriend up to 1 am when they retired to bed,” Kazungu said.

Kazungu says he was briefed about the disappearance of Herman on Tuesday evening.

“They said that Herman had not been seen and his door was locked. I used a binding wire to peep through the window and saw bloodstains, I went to the police station and reported the matter,”  Kazungu said.

Investigations into the matter are continuing.
