At Least 20 Dead In A Stampede At A Church In Tanzania

At least 20 worshipers have died and more than 16 others seriously injured during a stampede in a church in Tanzania.

Hundreds of worshipers had gathered in a stadium in Moshi town, on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro on Saturday evening for a “Kesha” according to an official who did not want to be named.

A stampede occured when the pastor asked the “faithfuls” to run for the anointed oil. A crowd rushed to the podium, pushing and stepping on each other leading to 20 losing their lives on the spot.

Pastor Boniface Mwamposa has been drawing huge crowds to his fellowship meetings promising people instant property especially those who gets a feel of his anointing oil which he calls “blessed oil.”

“As a result, 20 people died and 16 others injured,” said Moshi District Commissioner Mr. Kippi Warioba, adding that the police have launched investigations.

The incident took place at night and when the lights were off with authorities now saying the death toll could rise.
