Highway Closed As Mega-Screens Mounted Along Highway In Moi’s Funeral

The Nairobi-Eldoret highway will be closed to all heavy commercial trucks on Tuesday as from 12pm to Wednesday at 7 pm to pave way for mourners who will be streaming to Kabarnet for President Moi’s funeral.

The Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said this urging all road users to strictly adhere to the highway code to avoid trouble all any inconveniences.

“All road users are advised to strictly adhere to the highway code to avert inconveniences,” Mutyambai said at Jogoo House where he addressed a press briefing.

Mutyambai also noted that security would be beefed up along the highway to ensure public security and safety.

“We appeal to all the road users to cooperate with the police as we are befitting send-off to our former head of state,” Mutyambai said.

A majority of roads leading to the Central Business District have also been closed to ensure a three-day viewing of the body of the late former president Daniel Arap Moi started that began on 8th February 2020.

Uhuru Highway (at Likoni, Bunyala)

Valley road

University Way (State House Road) Roundabout

The Nairobi-Malaba highway and the Nairobi-Eldoret traffic will be greatly affected on the 11th and 12th of February 2020.

Screens to Be Mounted Along Highways on Moi’s Funeral

The government is also working to mount four giant screens in Rift Valley to help members of the public follow the late former President Moi’s burial on Wednesday 12th February 2020.

The screens will be mounted at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, Sacho, Ravine, and Karbarnet in Baringo County.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i said the screens will be in Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, Sacho and Kabarnet in Baringo County, with the fourth screen’s spot yet to be decided.

Sacho is the birthplace of the late Mzee Moi while Kabarnet was his hometown.

CS Matiang’i said the screens will help those who are unable to travel to Kabarak to follow the proceedings during the burial and also avert overcrowding.

“Those sites will get the same services as here. They can follow the service and participate in it fully from there,” said CS Matiang’i.
