The Ministry of Education has revised the 2020 school term dates, officially changing the dates for both KCPE and KCSE 2020 examination schedules.
The change of term dates has already been communicated to schools through circular dated February 12, 2020, written by Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang’.
Following the change of the term dates, schools will have to close early in term three than earlier communicated to pave way for the national examinations.
“Following stakeholders consultations on the above subject, (2020 term dates), it has been found necessary to revise the term dates for the calendar year 2020 for schools and colleges,” read part of the circular.
The third term for all primary schools has been moved from November 30, 2020, to November 27, 2020 (7 days earlier than what had been communicated before).
The Kenyan Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) will be done from October 26, 2020, and expected to come to an end on October 29, 2020.
Just like primary school, secondary schools will break for the third term on October 23, 2020, from the earlier date of October 30, 2020. KCSE examination dates have also been moved and slated between November 2, 2020, and November 25, 2020.
College students will have an extra day on their term one holiday. Their closing date has been moved backward to April 9, 2020, from the earlier date of April 10, 2020.
Facing out national examinations
The government is in the process of facing out both KCPE and KCSE national examinations in the near future with the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum that has now reached Grade 4.
It is, however, feared that the new curriculum will not bear the fruits intended because the government has been in a haste to implement it without putting in place the infrastructural requirements to ensure it succeeds.
The Ministry of Education has insisted that the CBC is a train that has already left the station and that there is no turning back.
