13 Chinese Nationals Denied Access into Kenya from Tanzania

13 Chinese nationals have been denied access to Kenya after they forcefully tried to enter the country through the Kenyan-Tanzanian Border.

According to a police report, the 13 Chinese Citizens were among a group of 16 foreigners (including three Tanzanians) who were trying to gain entrance into the country through the LungaLunga border in Kwale County, but were stopped by the policemen manning the border.

The Chinese nationals were identified as Xiao Zhanquan, Xu Shaul, Xu Duo, Lyu Xiaohua, Zhou Changyong, Jiang Chunyang, Xiao Zhanquan, Lyu Xiaohua, Wang Xiaoba, Shang Deyuan, Huang Honghui, Yang Yubiao and Cao Bingwang.

The Tanzanians who accompanied the Chinese nationals were Wema Ramadhan, Saidi Mapunda and Mohammed Makolo.The three were drivers of the vehicles that carried the Chinese nationals.

The 16 foreigners told the policemen on duty that they were headed to the Bamburi Cement Limited to do a ‘special’ assignment.

The Police later learnt that the Chinese had arrived in Tanzania in diverse dates between March 4^th and March 16, 2020.Thus the foreigners had not quarantined for 14 days as required by the Public, Health and Safety standards prompting the police to escort them back to Tanzania.

Counties situated along the borders are seen as more vulnerable to contracting the virus if cases are reported in the bordering countries.

In February, 239 passengers from China were allowed into the country under instructions that they should self-quarantine. Kenyans have never gotten over that stating that the cases reported in the country are as a result of the Government’s carelessness.

Kenya has so far confirmed 4 covid-19 cases. About 23 individuals have been isolated in different Health facilities in the country for monitoring.

The Government requires that citizens remain vigilant and report any suspicious cases to the relevant authorities.
