The National Assembly and the Senate speaker have moved joined the executive in surrendering 30 percent of their salaries in their show of personal commitment to step up on the fight against coronavirus (COVID-19).

The National Assembly and the Senate speaker  have joined the executive in taking the pay cuts meant to be merged into the funds facilitating the fight against COVID-19.

Speaker Muturi and Lusaka will be taking the 30 percent pay cut for the next three months as President Uhuru and his Deputy, William Ruto, will be taking 80 percent cut on their salaries.

The National and SenateSpeaker are now encouraging the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly, Aden Duale to pick a cut on his salary to facilitate the fight against COVID-19.

Kenneth Lusaka, the Senate Speaker also encourages Leader of Majority in the Senate Kipchumba Murkomen to pick a cut on his salary so that it can all be merged and fronted in combating COVID-19.

The salary cuts among Kenyan leaders were a move fronted by President Uhuru Kenyatta though Kenyans have argued that their allowances are way too many than their salaries and that more could be done.

Kenyans have however applauded the government for a number of moves, for example, the tax reduction and the suspension of tax for persons earning 24,000 shillings and below.

The government has also banned Mitumba importation as most of it comes from Europe which is currently the epicenter of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Kenyan travelers have failed in going for self-quarantine which has, in turn, risked the lives of hundreds of Kenyans as authorities trace the travelers and force them into quarantine.

Examples of individuals who intentionally spread coronavirus and put the lives of Kenyans at risk despite them having traveled from COVID-19 epicenter include a Catholic Priest, Kilifi Deputy Governor, a nun, and a pastor.

Kenya has so far reported the first case of a cured coronavirus patient and sadly reported its first death yesterday.
