About 50 Members of Parliament in Kenya are set to get tested for the Coronavirus after they interacted with Rabai Member of Parliament, who was confirmed positive last week.
The Rabai Member of Parliament, William Mwamkale Kamoti tested positive after coming into contact with Kilifi county deputy Governor Gideon Saburi, who is blamed for recklessly defying self-quarantine rules and risking the lives of several people.
Before testing positive for Covid-19, Hon Kamoti had attended a parliament session on March 17, 2020, where he is said to have interacted with over 50 legislators.
Since the virus is very contagious, the Rabai MP might have exposed the legislators he interacted with to the virus thus they have to be tested as well.
According to a senior parliamentary official, all the lawmakers who interacted with honorable Kamoti are being traced and will be subjected to a mandatory test and quarantine.
“Parliament has since notified the Ministry of Health to trace and subject the people the MP may have interacted with, “the parliament official said.
38 Members of the Justice and Legal Affairs (JLAC) and Delegated Legislation committees are among those being traced by the MoH. Hon Kamoti was a member of the two committees.
The government announced that it has traced at least 122 people who interacted with the rogue Kilifi deputy governor Gideon Saburi.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said Mr.Saburi will be charged in court upon his recovery after he risked several lives by exposing them to Covid-19.
