The Ministry of Health has written to the County Executive Committee members requesting the suspension of all elective surgical procedures in county hospitals.
The letter addressed to the County Executive cites that the decision to suspend all elective surgical procedures has been reached upon following the increase in coronavirus cases in the country.
“Following the increase in the number of confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in the country,” the letter says.
“There is a necessity to direct all available resources towards combating the further spread and prepare for intensive management of patients who may need critical care,” the letter insists.
The letter continues to explain that the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases will see the country need more resources which is why elective surgeries have been suspended.
“This would require the use of the available human and material resources at your disposal that will be quite rigorous,” the letter states referring to the increase of COVID-19 cases.
The letter goes ahead to request county executives to cancel all elective surgical procedures except obstetric cases at county facilities to direct resources towards combating COVID-19.
