Juventus Defender Daniele Rugani Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Italian giants Juventus, have revealed that their center-back Daniele Rugani tested positive for the Coronavirus.

Juventus said that they will be activating all the required isolation procedures to Rugani and all those who recently came into contact with him.

Since Rugani is ‘currently asymptomatic’, no other player in Juventus has been confirmed positive even though the player interacted with most of them in the dressing room and during training.

On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, Rugani was spotted training with his teammates. Rugani had earlier posed for a photo with his teammates in the dressing room after the match between Juventus and Inter Milan on Sunday, March 8, 2020.

Following Rugani’s diagnosis, all the Juventus players will be quarantined for 14 days as a measure of preventing further spread of coronavirus if in case another player is positive.

Inter Milan, which played against Juventus on Sunday, has responded to Rugani’s news of testing positive by canceling all the club’s competitive activities including training.

“Following Juventus FC’s announcement that their player Daniele Rugani has tested positive for Covid-19, FC Internazionale announce that all competitive activities have been suspended until further notice,” Inter Milan said in a statement.

“The club is currently taking steps to put all the necessary procedures into place.”

Inter Milan’s match against Getafe in a Europa League was also suspended over coronavirus fears.

All sporting events in Italy have been suspended until April 3, 2020, as measures to contain the deadly virus are underway.

The Italian Football Federation announced that due to the coronavirus, the Serie A league may not continue and thus the current standings would be considered final.

The Italian federation said they might decide to stage play-offs or declare no champion for the 2019-2020 season.

Elsewhere, the Italian Government has quarantined over 16 million people and declared all shops to be closed except food stores and pharmacies.

Italy is the second most hit country after China, with 328 deaths and 12,000 cases of the covid-19.
