Man Quarantined In Kericho After Exhibiting Coronavirus-Like Symptoms

A man suspected to be infected with the deadly coronavirus has been quarantined at Londiani Sub-County Hospital in Kericho County after exhibiting symptoms associated with the illness.

The 47-year-old man was taken to the Londiani sub-county health facility by his wife after he complained of severe cough and weak joints in what doctors said was symptomatic of the new coronavirus (Covid-19) leading to him being quarantined.

The 47-year-old man is said to be a cleric who arrived in Londiani from Mombasa before he developed the coronavirus-like complications prompting his wife to take him to the Londiani hospital.

“He was immediately quarantined in an isolated ward with blood samples taken to Nairobi for specialized analysis and first-aid measures put in place,” says a medical report.

The Londiani-Kericho suspected coronavirus case was reported on Saturday, 16th March 2020, at midnight, but was made public on Monday, according to a police incident report. Paul Chepkwony, the Kericho Governor has confirmed the case urging residents not to panic and instead observe hygiene in their day to day life.

Coronavirus has so infected 182,407 confirmed people, led to the deaths of 7,154 people while 79,433 have recovered and tested negative after having previously tested positive.

“There are 117 isolation beds set aside and available in public and private hospitals across the county,” said Prof Chepkwony, adding that there was no cause for alarm as even the man’s wife had self quarantined in their Mau Summit home on the border of Kericho and Nakuru counties.

Three cases have so far been confirmed positive in Kenya as announced on Sunday by President Uhuru Kenyatta after the country’s first patient was confirmed to be a 27-year-old lady on Friday 12th March 2020 after having arrived from the US.

Kenya has since closed schools with a strict order to retailers not to take advantage of the situation to hike prices.
