700 Iranians Die After Drinking Methanol To Treat COVID-19

As people are desperate to find the vaccine for Coronavirus, speculations have been going around that alcoholic products including methanol and hand sanitizers could kill the virus even when consumed.

Before this misconception kills you, do not experiment it lest you fall victim like some Iranians who have died in the recent days after drinking methanol in the name of curing Covid-19.

According to Iran’s National Corona Authority, 728 people have died after drinking toxic alcohol between February 20 and April 7, 2020. Only 66 died in 2019 after drinking the killer alcohol.

The Government announced that the number of people that were poisoned by alcohol methanol during the coronavirus pandemic has shoot rapidly to 5,011 in just two months.

Iranian health ministry spokesman, Kianoush Jahanpour, said that up to 90 people have also lost their eyesight or have eye problems after drinking the poisonous drinks. Another health specialist said the number of blind people could increase.

So far, 91, 000 people have been infected with the deadly Coronavirus with 5,806 deaths in the Middle East country. Iran now has to deal with a concurrent crisis, toxic alcohol.

Even though methanol is very toxic, one can neither test it nor smell it in a drink.

When consumed, methanol can cause delayed organ and brain damage with Symptoms that include; chest pain, nausea, hyperventilation, blindness, and even coma.

The Iran Government advised methanol manufacturers to use color so that the public can be aware of what they are consuming.

On the other hand, Coronavirus cases continue to increase in various parts of the world where 3,220,847 people have tested positive while the death toll has reached 228,263.

Over 1 million people have recovered from the virus giving the world some hope.

Some countries have decided to ease their lockdowns as they continue to record low numbers as compared to the previous months.
