COVID-19 Global Cases Now Over A Million As Deaths Surpass 54,000

The global Covid-19 cases have now hit the one million mark since it was first reported in November, claiming the lives of 54,000 people.

Apparently, the deadly virus was not supposed to stop at the 1 million marks as is continuing to spread and claiming the lives of people and businesses day in day out.

Despite all the necessary measures that countries have put in place to combat the spread of the virus, the number of cases has been increasing exponentially in recent days.

So far, 204 countries have reported the covid-19 cases including the two international conveyances: the Diamond Princess Cruise ship harbored in Yokohama, Japan, and Holland America’s MS Zaandam cruise ship.

According to data from the Woldometer, the USA is the most affected country recording up to 245,743 cases and over 6,000 deaths.

Italy is the second most affected country but the leading in the deaths where it has reported 115,242 cases and over 13,000 deaths.

Spain is third with 112,065 cases, 10,348 deaths, Germany 84,794 and 1,107, China 81,620 and 3,322 deaths.

The virus which started in China is seemingly neglecting its native country and haunting the rest of the world especially the European continent.

Interestingly, even though the Chinese have over 80,000 reported cases, 76,571 have recovered from the infection leaving only 1,727 active cases.

The epicenter has of the virus had shifted over the past three months, changing from China to Italy and now to the USA.

Experts who were earlier wondering why the virus is not affecting the African countries can now get some sleep as the cases are also rising steadily in the Black continent and it is not sparing lives as well.

South Africa is the most affected country in Africa, reporting over 1,462 and five deaths. Egypt comes in second with 865 cases and 58 deaths, Morocco 708 and 44 deaths, Tunisia 455 and 14 deaths and Cameroon with 306 and 7 deaths.

The numbers could be higher in certain countries due to some challenges they are facing. Burundi, for example, had earlier not reported any case since they had not acquired any testing kit.

However, as is always said, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, the number of recoveries is also encouraging.

Over 200,000 people have since recovered from the virus with China leading with the highest number.

In as much as the patients are taking longer to recover, let us have hope that all this is temporary and the best is yet to come.

All we need to do is follow the Public, Health and Safety requirements and above #StayATHome!
