When the Cabinet Secretary for Health Mr. Mutahi Kagwe took over the helm of Afya House, Kenyans smiled widely and sighed with relief, “At last, a reasonable man has come”, they whispered.
Then came the deadly Coronavirus. CS Mutahi Kagwe seemed calm and started handling it like a “gentleman”, “a professional”. In fact, some murmured that he spoke like a “good President”. “This man can be a good President,” they said online and offline.
As time went on and as Coronavirus continued to rise, CS Mutahi Kagwe started showing his true colours. He is not one of us. He does not care about us. He cares about them. And I will try to explain why.
Of late, the once “good CS” has become more of a preacher, motivational speaker, an emotional rider than a Cabinet Secretary for Health. He is poor, terrible and pathetic at giving motivational speeches. He has called Kenyans fools, ignorant and jokers. By all means, he has been trying as much as possible to pin and blame the outbreak of Coronavirus on us, Kenyans.
On Saturday, CS Mutahi Kagwe went overboard. He first started with the “motivational talk” of why the youth need to join the fight against Covid-19. But he failed when he said that the youth MUST and SHOULD volunteer, among other things to sweep the streets and protect our aged population.
He even suggested that football teams should now be turned into cleanup groups, to sweep the streets and keep them clean. Does Mutahi Kagwe know that these youth, before the outbreak of Covid19 used to earn a living through those football teams? To clean, they can, then what shall they eat?
“It is you who will face your children with a collapsed economy,” shouted the seemingly annoyed Mutahi Kagwe. This was a threat. Is he looking at blaming the youth for a collapsed economy? Is he planning to blame the youth if the virus moves out of hand?
Is Mutahi Kagwe aware that the government he serves long declared that it has little trust in the youth and decided to employ old and tired men and women like Uncle Moody Awori and Mary Wambui? Oh, so, the youth must volunteer and the old in government must be paid to sit at home. Interesting. Right?
I think CS Mutahi Kagwe should stick to what he has been employed to do. During this pandemic, let him come, give us the statistics, state the plans the government has then go. If he wants to preach, let him start a church and of course stream it online.
The government he serves has failed this country. Poor healthcare, massive unemployment, poor infrastructure, massive corruption and any other evil you can think of. Am going to leave it here. Mutahi Kagwe is fond of calling on police to arrest people and am not ready.
