The National Transport and Safety Authority has announced that the collection of number plates will continue during the Covid-19 crisis.

The agency said it held talks with all the stakeholders involved including the Ministry of Interior and coordination of National Government, KRA, motor vehicle dealers and CFSs to ensure business continuity while at the same time adhering to the safety guidelines to curb the spread of Coronavirus.

“After deliberations, it was resolved that some CFS collection points be merged while taking into account the state of the facility in terms of space and other factors to implement the safety guidelines,” NTSA said.

The following are the points identified for the number plate’s collection; Kencott- Collection point for Kencott and Mitchel Cott, CB2-Collection point for Interpol and MCT, and Autoport which will be the collection points for Autoport and Unfreight.

“Dealers have been collecting number plates from these points at agreed upon time and thousands of motor vehicles have been released from the CFSs” NTSA added.

The agency also dismissed reports that there has been a shortage of number plates in the country clarifying that the available ones are enough.

In supporting the fight against Covid-19, the motor vehicle industry has donated PPEs to be used by the officers handling vehicle importation documents and serving the customers.

The industry also encourages citizens to make use of the online services available in a bid to reduce the spread of Coronavirus in the country and as well ensure that deliveries are done in time.

“We assure the public that despite scaling down on operations in a bid to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, All our online services are available and the Authority is working closely with all the relevant stakeholders to ensure delivery is not adversely affected during this pandemic.”
