President Uhuru Locks Down Coronavirus Red-Zoned Counties

President Uhuru Kenyatta has today declared the cessation of movement outside and within Nairobi, Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa Counties for the next 21 days.

President Uhuru has announced that the Nairobi lockdown will start today (Monday) at 7 pm while that of the other counties will begin from Wednesday at 7 pm.

President Uhuru has said that 82 percent of the people who have contracted the disease are Nairobi residents followed by Kilifi, Kwale, and Mombasa counties hence the decision to lock the counties and the whole of the coastal strip.

“`This virus doesn’t care about the size of your wallet, in defeating it, we should face the enemy standing side by side. Our unity is demonstrated by each Kenyan going the extra mile,” President Uhuru has said.

“Make no mistake, we are at war…we must be together if we shall win this war,” Uhuru has announced adding, “There is a choice that we are asked to make. Do we carry out as normal or carry it as an emergency and fundamentally change the way we act.”

“We are being called upon by our children to show the greatness in us by how we respond to this virus,” President Uhuru has urged Kenyans.

Uhuru has said that the wearing of masks and washing hands will save lives adding that Kenyans must stick to measures to curb the spread.

“We must avoid all areas and comply with government directives and we must be careful,” Uhuru has said.

“Kenyans should wear a mask while in public places. There will be thousands of tailors who will make these masks,” Uhuru has said encouraging Kenyans to make masks and proper communication of what is required will be done.

President Uhuru has also announced that the number of coronavirus cases has risen to 158 after testing 4277 people since the outbreak started in Kenya after 16 new samples have turned positive.

The President has since announced the cessation of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale

Cease all movement within, in and out of the following Counties in Kenya:

  1. Nairobi
  2. Kilifi
  3. Kwale
  4. MOMBASA
  5. COASTAL STRIP

The lockdown in Kwale, Kilifi, and Mombasa will be effective on 8th April 2020, Wednesday.

The Nairobi Metro is designated as follows:
a. Nairobi city county
b. Parts of Kiambu county up to Chania bridge, Thika, including Rironi, Ndenderu, Kiambu town
c. Parts of Machakos up to Athi River including Katani
d. Parts of Kajiado including Kitengela, Kiserian, Ongata Rongai, Ngong’ Town and all areas as set out in the order.

Movement of food supply to continue through road, rail, and air

“The last time the World faced a pandemic such as this was a century ago when an influenza attack occurred,” President Uhuru has said.

4277 tested 16 more positive

158 total cases

4 fully recovered

6 have died

Any person, passenger-carrying vehicles, bikes, aircraft & rail, shall not be allowed in and out of Nairobi, Kwale, Kilifi and Mombasa Counties.
