6 Pillars To Guide KDF’s Exit From Somalia After 8 Years Of Bloodshed

“This will involve securing routes in Jubbaland accessible to and used by al-Shabaab, including areas in Jilib, the roads to Kenyan border points (Liboi, El-Wak, Mandera, Gherille and Boni forest) and the Indian Ocean ports of Ras Kamboni, Kuday, Kismayu and Barawe.”

Pillar Three

The third pillar will include ensuring a comprehensive management control system to secure the Kenya-Somalia border which will include creating a process that will involve “surveillance, trenches, roads and chain-link fences”.

It proposes opening of immigration offices at major entry points such as Mandera, El-Wak, Gherille, Liboi, Kolbio and Kiunga in a way to facilitate AMISOM’s exit from Somalia.

Pillar Four

Pilla four is all about strengthening and enhancing intelligence and security operations of multi-agency command and control centres in the Capital Center Nairobi, Mombasa, Wajir, Moyale, Busia, Namanga, Lamu and Lokichoggio.

Pillar Five

Pillar five involves creating partnerships through the strengthening of an agreement involving Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia on common security concerns and agenda.

The fifth pillar also includes the enhancing of collective security by involving neighbours of Somalia through the Inter-Governmental Authority for Development and the East African Community.

The Sixth And Final Pillar

The final pillar that will be guiding the exit of Amason from Somalia is the sixth and one that will involve countering violent extremism through working with the community members to create public awareness.

The sixth pillar will be targeting the youth, women and faith-based organisations in creating community awareness and will involve co-ordination with regional agencies to enable joint training and exercises aimed towards countering terrorism in East Africa region.
