The legend and pioneer of Twist genre of music in Kenya in the 1960s Mr. John Nzenze is dead.
Nzenze died on Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Mukumu (Kakamega County) wher he had been admitted for cancer.
Nzenze was born in Muthurwa, Nairobi in 1940 but was a native from Vihiga Kakamega, where he relocated until his death.
The man is known with other great names such as Daudi Kabaka, David Amunga, Bosco Wabayeke, John Mwale among others.
Some of his Twist hits include Angelike:
Ooooh,
Ninamlia Angelikee,
Angelike rudi tuonane,
Roho yangu inanisumbua,
Aeee.
Another hit was “Twist ni nzuri”, and Veronica.
Among those who have eulogized him are Raila Odinga, Wycliffe Oparanya among other politicians who left him to die a poor man and now singing his praises of how great he was.
