Using The Knife To Settle The Differences: 5 Stabbed To Death In 2 Weeks

Cases of people stabbing others to death in Nairobi have been on the increase with at least 5 people having lost their lives in the last two weeks. Many cases remain unreported.

The first case was reported in Eastleigh where a gang stabbed one Abdi Hassan Koote to death under unclear circumstances. The gang members have since been arrested and presented in court.

In Kayole, a lady by the name Winfred Nduku stabbed her two children to death after she quarreled with her own mother. The woman then used the same knife to stab herself several times before she was rushed to a nearby hospital.

According to the mother of the suspect, the lady was asked to prepare food for her children who had not eaten anything the whole day. She became furious, picked up a knife, and stabbed the kids.

In Umoja, police are holding a 29-year-old woman after she stabbed to death her 33-year-old boyfriend. The boyfriend worked as an engineer with Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The woman is said to have picked a knife after a confrontation with her boyfriend, stabbed him several times before she ironically rushed to call for help from neighbors, and took him to hospital.

Four of the 5 reported cases involve people who are well-known to each other (family members) while one is a by gangs. Police say many people are also being terrorized by gangs in most parts of Nairobi with the majority of them being stabbed but most cases are not reported.

Domestic violence

The Ministry of Health, at one point, noted with concerns the rising cases of domestic violence during this time that many people are forced to stay in their houses due to the threat of Covid-19.

The Ministry called on Kenyans to be understanding of each other especially in the event that one of the parties has lost a job due to the ongoing pandemic.
