Brace For Heavy Rainfall In The Next One Week- MET Warns

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned Kenyans to prepare for heavy rainfall in the next seven days saying the rainfall severity will be above 70mm.

Counties that will receive most of the rainfall in the next five days according to MET are Laikipia, Baringo, West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Bugoma, Kericho, and Samburu.

Kenya has not even come into terms with the consequences of the previous heavy rainfall that has claimed 292 lives, displaced thousands, killed livestock, and destroyed property which means there is a need for Kenyans to take the alert seriously.

Other counties that will be affected according to MET are Keiyo-Marakwet, parts of Kiambu, Murang’ a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Kisumu, Kakamega, and  Busia according to the weather forecast by MET.

“Moderate rainfall between 20-70 mm is expected over some parts of Bomet, Kisii, Nyamira, Vihiga, Siaya, Homa Bay, Turkana and Lamu Counties,” the MET weather forecast reads.

Narok, Nairobi, Meru, Tharaka, Embu, and Migori Counties should expect to receive light rainfall of about 20-50 mm while the other parts of Kenya should expect to remain relatively dry according to MET.

High daily-average temperatures of 30˚C are expected in parts of Turkana, Marsabit, Wajir, Isiolo, Garissa, Tana River, and some parts of Kitui, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Kwale and  Kajiado counties.

Mandera, Makueni, Kitui, Mombasa, Lamu, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Narok, Kajiado  Migori, Siaya, and Baringo counties should expect to experience moderate daily-mean temperatures of 25-30˚C while Nairobi, Meru, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Kiambu, Machakos and Makueni counties will experience daily-mean temperatures of below 15˚C.

Residents of Laikipia, Baringo, West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Bugoma, Kericho, Samburu, Keiyo-Marakwet and some parts of Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Kisumu, Kakamega and Busia Counties are hence warned against staying in low-land areas where if there is the risk of mudslides and avoid moving water at all costs.
