Funny Prayers From Sirisia MP John Waluke’s Sentencing

Thursday was the day of reckoning. It was the day of sentencing for Sirisia Member of Parliament John Waluke after he was found guilty of 313 million shillings fraud.

Despite the fact that the man received a share of 50 million shillings from the loot, he was ordered to pay more than 700 million shillings in fines or serve 39 years in prison, running concurrently with a maximum of 7 years.

Kenyans waited with an abated breath to see what the court would rule. Many Kenyans thought it was going to be business as usual where the court would let the MP and his co-accused walk to freedom after paying a small fine.

What carried the day, however, were the lawyers of the MP who tried desperately to save him from going to prison and from paying a hefty fine. It was obvious that their efforts were kicks of a dying horse. Some of the lawyers like Cliff Ombeta seemed like they would break down in tears before the judge.

At one time, the lawyers said that John Waluke was to be forgiven because he was a disciplined man while in the military and that he saved the late President Daniel Moi from a coup. They also said that the man was kind and was supporting hundreds of orphans in his constituency.

Another lawyer said that the MP is currently servicing a mortgage and has two wives who entirely depend on him and that sending him to jail would inconvenience the family. They also said that his mother was 80 years old and that if the man went to jail, it would really break the mother’s heart.

Lawyer Cliff Ombeta said that John Waluke was not a young man. That if he was set free, he would go home to tell people why they need to observe and obey the law. Another lawyer said that if the man went to prison, he would be exposed to Covid-19.

The drama continues.
