14 Kenyans have died in the last 24 hours due to Covid-19, taking the total number of fatalities to 299 as the pandemic continues to spread across the country.
At the same time, 606 Kenyans have tested positive of Covid-19 taking the total number of confirmed cases to 18,581 according to the statement issued by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe.
During the period under review, 75 patients recovered and were discharged from various hospitals across the country taking the total number of recoveries to 7,908.
The rise in cases comes barely a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the nation on the Covid-19 status in the country. The President called on Kenyans to be responsible and stop being reckless in enabling the virus to spread.
To ensure Kenyans observe the rules, Uhuru banned the sale of alcohol in eateries and restaurants for the next 30 days. He also reduced the closing time of eateries and restaurants from 8 pm to 7 pm.
Today, the CS has echoed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s words saying Kenyans should observe the rules or the pandemic will soon be too big to handle.
“The prohibition of sale of alcohol in eateries and restaurants is to encourage social distance… You will still be contravening the law if you turn your home to ‘Karumaindo’,” said the CS.
