Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha says that colleges and universities to remain closed until January 2021.

CS Magoha said that most institutions of higher education learning have not complied with Covid-19 regulations which would have allowed them to reopen in September this year.

Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has urged universities and colleges to continue offering online classes including online graduation ceremonies.

CS Magoha and Principal secretaries Simon Nabukwesi and Julius Jwani have been touring universities and technical institutions to assess their preparedness.

In a statement, CS Magoha noted that a survey of all Teacher Training Colleges, University’s and TVET institutions have shown that few of them have put in place necessary measures to comply with the Ministry of Health over Covid-19 protocols that can guarantee the safety of staff and learners once they reopen.

CS Magoha had earlier announced that Universities and colleges would be allowed to reopen if they meet the required Covid-19 protocols.

Lately, there has been a spike in the number of Covis-19 cases. Nairobi University is the worst-hit institution with more than 14 cases and three dead.

The final decision ion the reopening of the TTC’s and TVETs and Universities will depend on the guidance from the Ministry of Health.
