Blasts of nuclear proportion that were last witnessed during the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki hit the city of Beirut, Lebanon on Tuesday evening (East African Time).
The official number of fatalities has not been established but preliminary reports put the number at 150 with more than 8,000 injured.
Initially, the Lebanese officials claimed that the blast that destroyed the whole Port of Beirut was a result of a fireworks factory that caught fire.
The officials later gave another conflicting information that the blast had been caused by blasting materials that had been stored in a warehouse.

Videos of desperate parents frantically trying to protect their children after the waves and rubbles from the blast hit their residential buildings tell the clear story of the magnitude of the blast.
Although the Lebanese officials are trying to downplay the blast, the global community feels the blast was a result of an attack either from terrorists or another country.
People are suspecting that Israel had something to do with a blast. Last month, Israel increased the number of soldiers between her border and that of Lebanon.
The media in the west claiming that this massive nuclear like explosion is from “fireworks”

Was it an accident as it is claimed by the Lebanese officials or it was a coordinated attack? Time will tell. We wish the affected families well.
