Kenya: 1,216 Test Positive For COVID-19, 26 Dead In 24 Hours

On November 11th, 1,216 people tested positive for the virus, 1,174 are Kenyans and 42 are foreigners, from a sample size of 6,816 tested in 24 hours, bringing to 65,804 the number of confirmed positive cases in Kenya.

531 patients have recovered from the disease, 382 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 149 have been discharged from various hospitals bringing the country’s total recoveries to 43,626.

Sadly, 26 patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 1,180.

According to MOH, to date, there are 2,148 healthcare workers who have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. 1,087 are males and 1,061 females. Unfortunately, 23 healthcare workers have succumbed to the pandemic since its outbreak.

A total of 1,289 patients are admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 5,960 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 57 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 18 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 34 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 86 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 68 are in the general wards, while 18 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Current reports indicate that Africa might need 1,200,000,000,000 shillings to access the coming COVID-19 vaccine. The African Union has a commitment of 500,000,000,000 shillings promised by the World Bank and other donors.

President Cyril Ramaphosa noted that funding for the COVID-19 vaccine in Africa was expected to come from three sources, the COVAX Donor Initiative, the World Bank, direct donors, and African Import-Export Bank, which has committed to raising up to $5 billion only.

According to Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Africa needs to vaccinate around 60 percent of the population to arrest further transmission and death from the COVID-19 virus.
