Kenya: 559 COVID-19 Cases Recorded in 24 Hours

On November 16th, 559 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Kenya, from a sample size of 3,074 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 70,804 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country.  Of the cases, 541 are Kenyans & 18 are foreigners.

Distribution: Nairobi had 278, Meru 82, Kilifi 41, Mombasa 41 Kiambu 27, Machakos 16, Uasin Gishu 15, Kajiado 9, Isiolo 8, Nyeri 6, Busia 4, Kakamega 4, Tharaka Nithi 4,  Garissa 3, Muranga 3, Mandera 3, Kwale 2, Marsabit 2, Nakuru 2.  Kirinyaga 1, Vihiga 1, Homabay 1, Taita Taveta 1,  West Pokot 1, Tana River 1, Kitui 1, Kisumu 1 and Elgeyo Marakwet 1.

478 patients have recovered from the disease, 337 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 141 have been discharged from various hospitals. This brings the county’s total recoveries to 46,244.

As of November 16th, a total of 1,228 patients were admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 5,960 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 64 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 27 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 33 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 97 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 74 are in the general wards, while 23 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

According to the Ministry Of Health, since the beginning of the month, November, the country has recorded 14,927 positive cases and lost 274 people to the COVID-19 virus.

Meanwhile, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the Ministry received 300,000,000 shillings to buy re-usable face masks and KEMSA is expected to conclude the procurement process by November 30 and the distribution by December 31st.

The 300,000,000 shillings was handed over to KEMSA, to look out for local suppliers of re-usable face masks in co-operation with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).

The Ministry of Health said that with the surging numbers of Covid-19 cases, free face masks would make a big difference in curbing the spread of the disease, especially in rural areas.
