The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has released the official list of the shortlisted candidates for the position of the Chief Justice of Kenya. One of the shortlisted candidates will replace retired Chief Justice David Maraga who retired towards the end of 2020.
Interestingly, no judge of the Supreme Court applied for the position of the CJ, including the Acting CJ Philomena Mwilu. The fact that no judge who sat with David Maraga applied to replace him speaks volumes and might be the way the government frustrated him.
Kenyans expected judged such as Njoki Ndung’u to apply but they did not. Chances are that the next CJ of Kenya is going to be someone little known. Kenyans think that position might be given to Mr. Ngatia Fredrick, SC as a “reward.”
Here is the list of successful candidates:
- Hon. Mr. Justice Chitembwe Said Juma
- Prof. Kameri Mbote Annie Patricia Gathiru, SC
- Hon. Lady Justice Koome Martha Karambu
- Hon. Mr. Justice Marete D.K. Njagi
