In 2016, each and every lover of football had the same feeling as mine that Renato Sanches would make headlines in Europe after his impressive performances with Portugal.
After clinching the 2016 Euro finals against France. He outshined the competition that made him be named Euro’s young best player of the competition at only 18.
He largely contributed to Portugal’s triumph, thrilled by his obvious talent the Germans champions Bayern Munich paid a lot of money to recruit him in their team from Benfica. His future since to map out but unfortunately the Portuguese player became a shadow of his talent.
It was on December 4th, 2015 that the kid started making headlines in Lisbon while playing for Benfica. His talent was unexceptional that every coach in Europe admired playing with him. Nobody had doubts about it since they all said the kid was going places.
He shows cases his talents in the Euro 2016 a competition that he won and big clubs in Europe were running after his signature. They include Manchester United, PSG, and Bayern Munich. But in the end, the Bavarians won his signature with a 35 million Euros. It was the beginning of the end.
In Munich Renato’s debut was pathetic, terrible that no one could believe it was the same guy that won the youngest best player in Euros 2016. What really happened to the Portuguese player?
His bad start was accompanied by some reasons because when was joining Bayern as he was suffering from an injury that led him to miss the pre-season with the Bavarians. The 19year old could not break to the first lineup because his style of play could not fit the then coach Carlo Ancelotti. The mission was impossible that made Ancelotti say that,” If he is not showing his best in Germany that means there was no space for him. (2017)
The truth was Renato was more talented than he could adapt in any style of play. The real problem is that he was homesick. His transfer was done quickly and he did not imagine a statement that he admitted that he was not ready to leave his family.
“My transfer to Munich? I wasn’t ready, not exactly.” (2019)
His last year with Bayern was the biggest nightmare in his entire career. He said he was better physically but the Germans made choices. The player that was predicted to win it all was only a bench warmer.
Bayern decided to send him on loan to a humble premier league side Swansea s that he can relaunch his career. His performances in Britain continued being shambolic that he was taken back to Germany. No one had faith in him.
In August 2019, Renato made a shocking decision to leave Bayern. The former Benfica eagle joined Lille. Where they had faith. He went to rise from ashes since he doesn’t regret anything. He believes his failures will make the rise to the top flight in Europe again. Let’s cross our fingers to see this kid take off for good.
