A Boda Boda Rider Defiles A KCPE Candidate In Uasin Gishu

As Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) enters its third and last day today (Wednesday), one candidate in Uasin Gishu had her dreams shattered after she was kidnapped and raped by a boda boda rider as she headed to school on Tuesday morning.

The man raped and sodomized the 13-year old girl and left her unconscious in a thicket. She missed her exams and now fighting for her life at Moi Referal Hospital in Eldoret. The girl says she remembers the man hit her on the head before raping her.

The suspect is still on the run and the police say they are in hot pursuit of the criminal. It is not clear whether the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) will allow her to sit for the paper she missed or will have to repeat the class.

In Nyandarua County, a candidate died shortly after delivery due to excessive bleeding on Tuesday. The candidate reported to the school for her morning paper but labor pains set in. She was rushed to a nearby dispensary where she delivered a baby boy. She died at Nyandarua Referal Hospital where she was rushed for excessive bleeding.

In the same county, two other candidates delivered on Monday. Both the young mothers are safe although one lost a newborn. Education CS George Magoha has called on enhanced security at examination centers saying few police officers have been deployed as compared to before.
