Have you ever wondered why your life might have turned up differently? What might have happened if people made different choices. Am talking about Gonzalo Higuain who might have played for another country apart from Argentina. He might have been a world champion. But one choice made him become one of the greatest losers in international football and a subject of mockery in Argentina.
Higuain is a world-class striker, he setup goals from Naples to Juventus and even with Real Madrid. In his team, he is a celebrated player but with Argentina, he is a disappointment after disappointment.
In 2014 the Argentinian could have won the won World cup against Germany but Higuain missed a golden opportunity, Argentina finally lost in the final. His nightmare didn’t end there. In the final of 2015 of the Copa America against Chile, Argentina lost again, Gonzalo again missed again a prime opportunity then he missed a penalty. That was not over one year later again the Copa America finals, they again faced Chile, Argentina lost again. Higuaín missed a perfect chance yet again and he was labeled a loser in an international career. Today many Argentina fans make fun of him for his lack of efficiency and his curse.
Argentina social media is not tired of mocking him however it could all have been completely different because Higuain is also French. Gonzalo Higuain was born in Britain and has French nationality. His father announced publicly in 2006 attracted to the French national team. Raymond Domenech did everything in his power to recruit the player. ‘I called his father, even him, I even went to Madrid to talk to him. But I quickly understood that his father’s announcement had just been a way to put pressure on the Argentinian team.’
Truth be told Higuaín doesn’t have a lot with the French team. His father mentioned them to get the attention of the Argentina football club. In 2006 when he was selected by France to play against Greece. He refused to join them. This decision marked the beginning of his international career with Argentina. A decision of his heart but who knows 12 years after his decision that a world-class striker could have become a world champion if he had chosen France over Argentina
