Kikuyu Road To Be Closed Until May 2021

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced that the busy Kikuyu Road will be closed until May this year to allow the construction of a box culvert along the said road.

“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes as (shown in the sketch). We apologize for the inconvenience that may be caused as we endeavor to provide an efficient urban road network,” said the authority.

The road will be closed for 60 days from March 25 to May 24, a move that is likely to see a major traffic buildup along alternative routes. The authority says the wait is worth it to ensure the road network serves Nairobians better.

Traffic Jams

Traffic Jams in Nairobi are the order of the day. An average Nairobian spends between 30 to 3 hours in traffic jams daily. Sometimes the cumulative time can move to 6 hours.

The country loses at least 1 billion shillings daily on traffic jams with Nairobi City leading that front. Efforts are said to be put in place to cut down on the jams.

There were dreams to introduce BRT buses. They were said to be en route from South Africa but those who made the announcement have since forgotten and life moved on.
