He formed part of the formidable striking duo with Luis Suarez, one of the best in Liverpool history but since then he has become a shadow of his prime ages at Anfield. When did the rain start beating Daniel Sturridge?
In 2014, Sturridge was making a mockery of defense across the Premier League. 29 goals, 9 assists, Liverpool’s top scorer simply incredible.
Manchester City and Chelsea were kicking themselves for letting him go because when he signed for City in 2008 Sturridge was England’s brightest young talent; the lightning-quick, incredible technique of booth feet, impatient and unsatisfied with his time on the pitch.
He left City for Chelsea in 2009 where he won major trophies but his time on the pitch had not increased. Sturridge wanted more much more.
He chose Liverpool and became a beast. He is a star player in a top club but Anfield’s biggest pride was the dance he used for his goal’s celebration. You have to admit that Sturridge looks better than Messi on the dance floor. He can at least boost for being better than the Argentinian in one aspect. But since then, there was nothing to dance for. Jurgen Klopp’s arrival in 2015 is synonymous with the Red’s return to the top but not for Sturridge.
As the seasons have passed, the Englishmen have seen his influence on Liverpool’s attack diminished. He’s too injury-prone; 15 injuries, 99 games missed, 567 days absent. It was difficult for him to get more time on the pitch because he needed all of his physical capacity; speed, agility, strength.
The problem is that in his absence Liverpool has caught fire. Mane, Firmino, and Salah have conquered Europe. Klopp has no other choice but to play them every game. You would do the same thing in his position. Would You? Sturridge has struggled to make it at the top. 2 starts in the 2019 season. The situation was bad for the Englishman with 5 goals scored in 3 premier league seasons. The fans wanted him out, even the queen wants him out.
Klopp no longer has faith in him, Sturridge personally wanted to stay at Liverpool but the decision isn’t in his hand. His contract finished his contract at the end of the season and left the reds for West Bromwich Albion and later on he played for Turkish side Trabzonspor. A step back or a step forward for him, what do you think? Can he rediscover his form in the national team or it was just a one-season wonder?
