President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed that all teachers under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) take the Covid-19 vaccine. Through TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, Uhuru wants all teachers to be vaccinated before the reopening of schools.
Speaking during the release of this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), Nancy Macharia said that the government and the commission are committed to having all teachers vaccinated. She says teachers coming to mark KCSE will have to be vaccinated.
As of Tuesday, April 13, 2021, a total of 526,026 Kenyans had been vaccinated with the Astrazeneca vaccine according to data released by the Ministry of Health.
From the 526,026 Kenyans who have been vaccinated 122,984 are Health Workers, 42,343 Security Officers, 76,753 Teachers, and 283,946 are other members of the public who include those at 58 years and above.
296,724 (56.5 percent) are Males and 229,118 (43.5 percent) are females. Total doses distributed to the 9 regional stores are 999,000. Balance at the Kitengela Central Vaccines stores is 121, 000.
