Director of public prosecutions DPP has lined 37 witnesses to testify against Migori Governor Okoth Obado. Mr. Obado was accused of facilitating the murder of his lover, Sharon Otieno, who was 7 months pregnant.
In an update by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, (DPP) the murder trial will be held in July after being postponed from last year’s date of March 16th, 2020.
Mr. Obado is out on a bail of 5 Million. His case was addressed on 16th March last year, but halted following the COVID 19 pandemic. The case is set to resume in July this year.
The governor was accused of the murder of Sharon Otieno, a former Rongo student. Her body was dumped In a forest in Oyugis, Homabay county, in September 2018. He is charged alongside, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero.
A post-mortem report indicated that she was stabbed four times at the back, three times on the neck, and once on the left side of her abdomen. The governor admitted that Sharon was his girlfriend. A DNA test confirmed that the unborn infant was his.
Her parents, Douglas Otieno and Melinda Auoma, said yesterday they were hopeful that Justice will prevail. “Let us wait and see. We are almost getting to the third year since our daughter and her unborn child were murdered. We are hoping she will get justice,” said Mr. Otieno.
