Malawi President Fires Minister For Stealing Covid-19 Funds

As Africa and the world continue to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, those in power have used the pandemic to enrich themselves by stealing funds meant for the fight of the same. The pandemic has made so many billionaires in Africa than any other place.

In Malawi, President Lazarus Chakwera has fired his labor minister and arrested 19 officials for fraudulent use of funds meant to fight the coronavirus.  Mr. Chakwera, who is also a preacher, has ordered the arrest of all other officials to stole funds.

The arrests came after an audit revealed Malawi officials used millions of dollars in funds for their own expenses.  Political analysts say the firing was less punishment than a means to deter other fraud. The President has vowed to jail all of them.

Malawi’s Labor Minister Ken Kandodo is the highest-level official that President Lazarus Chakwera fired for misusing coronavirus funds. Kandodo used less than $800 from the COVID fund for allowances during an October trip to South Africa with Chakwera.

Malawi is one of the African countries that have been hard-hit by the pandemic, killing top-ranking government officials. In January 2021, two Ministers died on the same day from the virus, leading to President Chakwera calling it a national disaster.

Perhaps the people of Malawi, including their President will die of shock if they heard that in Kenya, people in government steal 2,000,000,000 shillings daily and nobody has ever been arrested or gone to jail.

They will actually be horrified if they found out that Jack Ma gave us donations and miraculously disappeared as soon as they landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. They will die for sure if they heard that the Ministry of Health used 4,000,000 for tea.
