Operators Of Airbnb To Register And Start Paying Taxes

If you thought the Jubilee government is done milking Kenyans with already torn and yawning pockets, then you are wrong. Operators of Airbnb and furnished apartments will have to register with the Tourism Regulatory Authority and pay taxes.

The authority had directed all operating Airbnb or providing accommodation to visitors to register by March 31, 2021. “Those who will not comply will be liable to prosecution and upon conviction pay accrued license fee,” said the authority.

The operators will have to pay 1,000 shillings for registration and 26,000 shillings as the annual fee. On top of this, they will continue paying Value Added Tax, single business permit, home insurance, catering levy among others.
