Elections of the members of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) are coming up. Many are in the race. Words are flying with each of the contestants trying their best to tell you why they are the best.
Georgina Maria Malombe is in the race and wants to be the ICPAK Council Member 2021. Who is she? What does she stand for? What is she offering?
Georgina Maria Malombe is a seasoned finance and accounting professional with over 20 years of experience in both the private and public sectors.
She has headed teams on Corporate Governance and Public Finance Management. This amazing experience combined with her integrity gives her an edge in leadership.
The ICPAK Council Member 2021 elections are upcoming and with her incredible servant leadership qualities, Georgina believes that she is able and capable of giving the Council a new face and breath of life.
A huge interest in contestants dissects their current service to the profession. She is the current Chairperson of the Association of Women Accountants (AWAK), and also the Co-Convener of the Practitioners Development Committee (PDC) of the Council.
Being a public office, the agenda has to align with the current realities at ICPAK and also ensure that the policies formulated to meet the needs and grievances of members.
With this, experience with in-house management cannot be reiterated enough. Thus in Georgina’s manifesto, she outlines her vision and agenda as follows.
Membership growth: involves a lot of lobbying with stakeholders to ensure maximum engagement and exposure with relevant authorities, institutions, and committees. Her role as a top advisor will ensure that there’s a steady rise in enrollment and that gains are achieved and sustained.
She will also need to ensure that the diversity of members’ needs are quantified and well outlined. The special interest groups should be well represented at various levels and their grievances should be heard in a timely manner. This will ensure good cooperation within all committees and boost cohesion.
Implementation of the ICPAK strategic plan, objectives, and immediate progressive needs. This is what will make a difference between her and other contestants in the race; how well she articulates her delivery pillars to ICPAK.
Georgina has drawn into a clear commitment to devolving funds at the Council, Secretariat, and its branches countrywide. This will ensure effectiveness in the completion of tasks, a clear improvement on how the trickle-down effect will promote efficiency.
Oversight institutions need resourcing and strengthening and this is precisely what Georgina Maria Malombe is rooting for, this will ensure accountability and enhance sustainability.
ICPAK would benefit greatly if well positioned as the reference point on the development of Kenya’s legislative frameworks for different license regimes.
She intends to leverage and capitalize on modern technologies for capacity building. This will enhance compliance and promote ease for practitioners to comply. A good win would also be by making CPD Programmes not only affordable but also ensure they’re driven by members’ needs for maximum benefits.
Inclusivity is a major source of concern in workspaces and when done appropriately, it boosts productivity immensely. Georgina intends to transform ICPAK into a fully inclusive environment that considers the needs of the youth, women, PWDs, and senior members of society.
“My experience in Accounting, Audit, Public Finance Management and Corporate Governance in both private and public sectors give me the confidence in driving positive change in organizations at all stakeholder levels,” says Georgina.
When leaders let their actions speak for themselves, society is convinced that indeed they’re equal to the task. Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.
This defines Georgina.
