KEY POINTS

"Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you are proud to live.”

Anne Sweeney said, “define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you are proud to live.” Success is a journey. Success and change have one thing in common; they are inevitable for those who pursue the right path.

Success is interesting sometimes. In most cases, we wait for it to land in large portions. The truth is, it often lands in small portions. All we have to do is to collect the small portions and make them big. That is a success. Difficult to define.

Nelson Mandela, when he was asked about real freedom, he said, “freedom cannot be achieved unless the women have been emancipated from all forms of oppression.” Hillary Clinton added by saying, “women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world.”

The future is women. So they say. The future is the now and then. They say when you empower a man, you empower an individual but when you empower a woman, you empower a whole society. Women are mothers, wives, sisters, and pillars of success.

Elections of the members of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) are coming up. Many are in the race. Words are flying with each of the contestants trying their best to tell you why they are the best.

A leader is best when people barely know he/she exists, when his/her work is done, the aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves. These are the words of Lao Tzu.

The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between, the leader is a servant. These are the wise words of Max DePree.

Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others. These are the words of Jack Welch.

Now, FCPA Georgina Maria Malombe needs your vote. She needs to serve you.
