Twitter is soon joining the mobile banking and transaction sector. Imagine being able to send and receive money via Twitter. Well, Twitter is rolling out a feature that will enable you to pay for services and goods, send and receive money via Twitter.
In a bid to make it easier for users to support each other beyond follows, retweets, and likes, Twitter has introduced a new way for people to send and receive tips.

The new feature is called “Tip Jar”, which allows money to be sent through Twitter, in lieu of displaying PayPal account details or a Venmo handle. An account’s Tip Jar is enabled by an icon next to the Follow button on their profile page.
Tapping the icon will display a list of payment services or platforms that the account has enabled. The services currently enabled by Twitter include Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon, PayPal, and Venmo.
Payment service availability will vary region-by-region, however. On Android, tips can also be sent within Spaces. Now, this is a new one. You will be able to tip people within your space. The world is indeed evolving and moving fast.
“Tip Jar is an easy way to support the incredible voices that make up the conversation on Twitter. This is the first step in our work to create new ways for people to receive and show support on Twitter — with money,” Twitter said in a statement.

You’ll know an account’s Tip Jar is enabled if you see a Tip Jar icon next to the Follow button on their profile page. Tap the icon, and you’ll see a list of payment services or platforms that the account has enabled.
Select whichever payment service or platform you prefer and you’ll be taken off Twitter to the selected app where you can show your support in the amount you choose.
The services* you can add today include Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon, PayPal, and Venmo. Twitter takes no cut. On Android, tips can also be sent within Spaces.
Starting today, everyone using Twitter in English can send tips to applicable accounts on Twitter for iOS and Android. For now, a limited group of people around the world who use Twitter in English can add Tip Jar to their profile and accept tips.
“This group includes creators, journalists, experts, and nonprofits. Soon, more people will be able to add Tip Jar to their profile and we’ll expand to more languages,” said the company in a statement.
Twitter has over 330 million active users who access the platform monthly. The tech giant hopes to capitalize on this traffic to cement its presence in the financial sector. As the world changes and people embrace cashless modes of transaction, the move by Twitter is likely to shift ground.
“We $ee you – sharing your PayPal link after your Tweet goes viral, adding your $Cashtag to your profile so people can support your work, dropping your Venmo handle on your birthday, or if you just need some extra help,” said Twitter.
“You drive the conversation on Twitter and we want to make it easier for you to support each other beyond Follows, Retweets, and Likes. Today, we’re introducing Tip Jar – a new way for people to send and receive tips,” it added.
