Celestine Muthengei, 19 years old and a second-year student of community development in Thika was allegedly attacked and stabbed several times in her hostel room at around 8 pm, on Monday night.

Mount Kenya University student was stabbed to death in what the police believe is a case of a relationship that turned tragic over alleged infidelity.

Celestine Muthengei, 19 years old and a second-year student of community development in Thika was allegedly attacked and stabbed several times in her hostel room at around 8 pm, on Monday night.

According to Celestine’s roommates, the supposed killer is said to have entered the room and locked the door, after which he drew a knife from his coat pocket and started stabbing her senselessly before vanishing into the dark.

“He entered the room and calmly asked where Celestine was …the man told her, “Ulidhani sitakupata. Unanicheat (you thought I wouldn’t find you. You are cheating on me)’, drew a knife from his coat, and stabbed her several times senselessly. He then opened the door and vanished into the dark amidst our screams.”

A police officer said that the student died upon arrival at Thika Level 5 Hospital as a result of breathing complications.

Students near the hostel where she was brutally wounded said that the girl had an affair with another man and whom she had slept with before her death, further adding that they had never seen the man who killed her before.

This is now the second incident happening in MKU associated with student murders this year after an almost similar case occurred in March.

The students now demand justice for their roommate, appealing to the police officer to speed up the investigations and apprehend the assailant.

“He must be prosecuted and jailed for life for the atrocious act.”

The institution has announced a raft of measures to protect students’ physical and mental well-being following the current incident.

The university disclosed that all the affected students including the witnesses to the incident have been taken under guidance and counseling.

Introduced in January, the program helps the student and youth Navigate issues including challenges in romantic relationships and dealing with rejection.
