Over 43,000 KCSE 2020 candidates who secured entry points into the various universities but missed their preferred degree course have until Monday 5th, 3 PM to revise their choice.

According to Mercy Wahome, the CEO of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) only about 23,000 of the candidates who missed their preferred courses had already submitted their applications.

“We appeal to those who did not merit their initial choices due to competition and have not yet revised their choices to do so before the Monday deadline, The application system is scheduled to close on Monday, July 5 2021 at 3 pm,” she said in an emailed statement.

She added that KUCCPS has done its best in notifying students through direct messages emails, and phone calls as well as through the principals of their former schools.

“While many responded to the calls and applied, some indicated that they had opted to join university under self-sponsorship. Others said they were planning to enroll at Strathmore and USIU, which do not take part in the KUCCPS student placement process, while others were seeking study opportunities abroad.”

The agency’s CEO also voiced concerns regarding those candidates who qualified but failed to apply for university courses thinking that there is no need for further studies after one completes Form Four.

She particularly urged leaders in the counties of Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Turkana, Marsabit, West Pokot, Lamu, and Kilifi to encourage and mobilize students who qualified to apply for admission to universities and colleges.

The 2020 KCSE saw a total of 142,540 Kenyan students score the minimum university entry grade of C plus or above and qualify for government sponsorship to university.
