MP Warns Magoha, Threatens to Start an Impeachment Process

KEY POINTS
"I will make sure I start the process of removing him from the Ministry of Education. I am ready to mobilize all members of the parliament so that we begin an impeachment process."
In what he termed as a ‘bogus’ education directive, the Baringo central member of parliament Joshua Kandie vowed to sponsor a motion in parliament to impeach education CS Prof George Magoha.
“If that behavior continues, I will make sure I start the process of removing him from the Ministry of Education. I am ready to mobilize all me, members of the parliament so that we do an impeachment process for him,” said Mr. Kandie.
Mr. Kandie further went on to attack Mr. Magoha stating that he has messed up the education sector by running it like his own briefcase.
“This is a warning to the minister of education. Next week I am going to mobilize colleagues and make sure that this guy is removed. The behavior is very bad,” he went on.

About two weeks ago, the Education CS issued a new directive banning the hiring of school buses for private use. Magoha noted that school buses should be used only for academic purposes. He further added that anyone looking to hire the buses should first seek permission from the Ministry of Education’s office headquarters in Jogoo House Nairobi.
A section of members of parliament have disagreed with this directive arguing that the school buses were bought using CDF money hence Magoha does not have the right to say how they’re supposed to be used.
Kandie’s sentiments were echoed by Baringo south MP, who questioned why the CS did not include the public in the decision-making process before issuing the directive since they are the ones who fund the NG-CDF.
The MPs also cited the entry requirements for the diploma in the primary teachers’ education program and the decision to merge schools that have less than 40 candidates for the 2021 national examinations as the issues of concern.
Mr. Kandie claimed that the new requirements on diploma training were ill-advised and many applicants including those from the region did not qualify.
“We have a teachers’ training college in Baringo Central but to our dismay, there are few learners and none from this region secured an admission because they did not qualify. The Ministry of Education should review the qualifications,” said Kandie.
Magoha has since faced threats by these members of parliament headed by Joshua Kandie, of removing him from office if he doesn’t change from doing things his way.
