Thieves riding on motorbikes are on the loose in Nairobi. They are snatching phones, wallets, and purses in broad daylight. Not long ago, they snatched a phone from a police officer, during the day and on camera. They are vicious and dangerous.

Some unlucky victims have been found dead after being stabbed or shot by these vicious thieves. They are ready to kill to get away with your smartphone. Some are walking while brandishing guns within the CBD and collecting phones without fear.

Nairobi has become one of the most dangerous places in Kenya. Waking up and getting out of your house might be guaranteed but coming back in one piece is unknown. It largely depends on whether you will meet the thieves or the police.

The question is, where are these thieve taking all these smartphones that they are stealing? The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has in the past few months unearthed a syndicate with hundreds of secondhand phones stolen from the Southern Bypass.

Buying a secondhand phone might land you in jail. Being found with a stolen property is a crime in Kenya. Now imagine if the original owner of the phone you are buying was killed, and the phone is traced to you. You will go to jail for robbery with violence and murder.

The price of new smartphones has really come down. With 5,000 shillings, one can have a brand new smartphone. Why should you go for a secondhand phone from people you do not even know? If you must, buy from the people you know.
