At the same time, against the Pound, the shilling shed off 0.09 percent to end at 150.83 while against the Euro, the shilling weakened by 0.06 percent to close at 127.99 (+4.41% year-to-date).
At the stock market, the total equity turnover increased by 277.33 percent to close at USD 1.92 MN (KES 221.71 MN) compared to yesterday’s turnover of USD 0.51 MN (KES 56.37 MN).
The NSE 20 shed 0.05 percent to close at 1,972.91 while NASI gained 0.53% to close at 177.10, respectively. Foreign investors assumed a net buying position by accounting for 62.12% of total market purchases and 34.18% of total market sales.
The top gainer of the day at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) on Thursday was Limuru Tea with 10.00 percent at the price of 330.00 shillings per share followed by Eaagads with 8.33 percent at the price of 13.00 shillings per share.
Eveready and Bamburi Cement gained 2.83 and 2.35 percent at the price of 1.09 and 37.00 shillings per share respectively while Carbacid Investments gained 1.73 percent at the price of 11.75 shillings per share.
Trans-Century was the top loser of the day. The company lost 7.86 percent at the price of 1.29 shillings per share followed by Nairobi Business Ventures with 7.19 percent at the price of 5.94 shillings per share.
BK Group lost 6.00 percent at the price of 28.20 shillings per share while Liberty Kenya and TPS Eastern Africa (Serena) lost 4.42 and 3.44 percent at the price of 7.78 and 15.45 shillings per share respectively.
The top mover of the day was Safaricom. The telecommunications giant moved 2.46 million shares. It was the only one with volumes above a million. Nairobi Business Ventures moved 959,700 while Umeme moved 689,700.
