KEY POINTS

SuperSport is also the only place to get English commentary on the legendary La Liga, where the top match for this round is the Basque derby between Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao from the Reale Arena in San Sebastian.

SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to extended action from the Premier LeagueLa Liga, and Serie A, with matches scheduled to run from Saturday 30 October to Monday 1 November 2021.

DStv and GOtv are the only true home of football in Africa, offering a range and depth of action that no other rival can match – it’s literally ‘Unbeatable Football’! If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be on the best football in the world.

The top match from the Premier League for this round of action comes from North London, where Tottenham Hotspur plays host to Manchester United in the late kick-off on Saturday 30 October. This clash sees both Spurs and the Red Devils looking to re-establish their credentials as heavyweights of the division.

One of the men United will be looking to for inspiration is Jadon Sancho, with the attacker yet to really set the Premier League ablaze after his big-money move from Borussia Dortmund a few months back.

“Jadon’s been around long enough, he knows football inside out and the Premier League can be tough,” said teammate Jesse Lingard. “He’s adapting. We’ve seen glimpses. He’s only going to get better. We have full confidence and hope in Jadon to succeed.”

The weekend’s action gets underway on Saturday with a potential thriller at King Power Stadium between Leicester City and Arsenal, where Jamie Vardy will be hoping to haunt the Gunners in the early kick-off before the afternoon games are headlined by the three main title contenders: Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea.

The Citizens will be at home to Crystal Palace, the Blues head to St. James Park to face Newcastle United, and Liverpool will welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Anfield for a fascinating clash. The Seagulls have been the surprise package of the league so far, but manager Graham Potter is urging his team to keep their feet on the ground.

“It’s a good start, there is no point denying that, but we’ve got a long way to go this season. If we think too far ahead or get carried away and think we’ve cracked it then we’ve got problems,” said the Brighton boss.

Sunday sees Leeds United looking to claim an away win over struggling Norwich City, before two of the league’s most ambitious mid-tablers, Aston Villa and West Ham United, do battle in Birmingham. The round wraps up on Monday with Wolverhampton Wanderers hosting Rafael Benitez’s Everton.

SuperSport is also the only place to get English commentary on the legendary La Liga, where the top match for this round is the Basque derby between Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao from the Reale Arena in San Sebastian.

This regional rivalry dates back to 1909 and is regarded as one of the most prestigious in Spanish football. Real have enjoyed the ascendancy recently, putting together a four-game unbeaten run against Athletic across all competitions, though the last La Liga meeting of the teams ended 1-1 back in April.

Los Txuri-Urdin (the White and Blues) coach Imanol Alguacil understands the importance of this derby and is backing his team to make the most of home advantage: “These games are always special, for both the players and the supporters. We know how much it means and how important it is for both teams, not just for the local pride, but also for our respective log positions. It will be a complicated and emotional game, but I have faith in my players.”

Elsewhere in Spain, this round, Atletico Madrid has a challenging match at home to the dangerous and unpredictable Real Betis, while Barcelona will be hungry to claim three much-needed points when they welcome Deportivo Alaves to the Camp Nou.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, will have a trip to Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero to take on Elche – a team they have not lost a league game to in more than 40 years. Nonetheless, manager Carlo Ancelotti has warned his team not to underestimate the hosts.

“We cannot take anything for granted, the past results are not relevant,” said the Italian. “We can only focus on the game that lies ahead of us, a challenging game where we will have to play to a high level to come away with all three points.”

Other key matches to watch in La Liga are Sevilla at home to Osasuna, a relegation six-pointer between Levante and Granada, as well the meeting of Valencia and Villarreal, with the latter team hoping that their African stars such as Samuel Chukwueze, Serge Aurier, Aissa Mandi and Boulaye Dia come to the fore at Estadio de Mestalla.

The headline clash from Serie A this weekend is the meeting of Roma and AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico on the evening of Sunday 31 October. Roma boss Jose Mourinho will be hoping this Halloween clash is not a horror show against one of the league’s true title contenders, with the Rossoneri looking strong through the early part of the season.

Despite this, Milan coach Stefano Pioli has not embraced the role of potential title winners: “Milan have grown a lot and still have room for improvement but the panorama of Scudetto contenders has not changed: the candidates are always the same, five or six, with Juve who will soon be back up there, and Atalanta who are used to slow starts,” insisted the veteran tactician.

“It will be essential for Milan to demonstrate decisive quality: continuity in the results. Eighteen months of excellent performances are not enough to win.”

The round opens on Saturday with a potential thriller in Bergamo, as Atalanta host Lazio for a meeting of two stylish, attack-minded teams. It will also be one for tactics nerds, with Gian Piero Gasperini pitting his wits against Maurizio Sarri.

Saturday also sees Juventus looking to continue their resurgence with a win away to Verona, while Serie A champions Internazionale will back themselves to claim all three points from a home match against Udinese early on Sunday.

Napoli will feel the same for their clash away to Salernitana, with the Neapolitans enjoying a drive in midfield that has been boosted by Cameroonian Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa. The player on loan from Fulham has even earned special praise from coach Luciano Spalletti.

“I didn’t know him when the directors first spoke to me about this player, but that kind of physicality in the tackle is a regular thing in England, it’s less common here,” said Spalletti of Anguissa.

“I had a few doubts, but everyone told me good things and he is really a splendid lad, it felt almost like he was returning to Napoli rather than arriving for the first time. You can ask him anything and he’ll do it. If he adds in the quality of being more of a box-to-box player, then Fabian Ruiz and the rest of the team can benefit even more.”
