As the country continued to struggle with the Covid-19 pandemic, many Kenyans embraced the use of online platforms in getting products and services. Uber Eats, in their latest report, says that a Kenyan bought groceries worth 33,509 shillings at a go.

The platform says it now has more than 60 grocery stores on Uber Eats in Nairobi. This year, Sunday afternoons were the most popular days to order delivery, with the 5-7 pm time frame being the most popular time to schedule orders.

At the same time, vegan dishes proved to be more popular than ever this year, with a 56 percent rise in vegan restaurants joining the app and orders increasing by 47 percent since the same time in 2020.

In terms of popular orders, Nairobians ate Chips this year than anyone else. According to Uber Eats, chips have proven to be the most popular side order, with tomato sauce coming out the top of the list of the most requested condiment with 4,889 requests.

During the year, one Kenyan bought 18 bottles of Whiskey from Uber Eats at 145,450 shillings. This was the most expensive order to have ever been made on the platform.

“As we expanded into alcohol delivery this year, folks across the world raised a glass. Thirsty customers in Nairobi proved to enjoy the service. The most expensive order has been 145,450 shillings with 18 bottles of whiskey,” said the platform.

Uber Eats says that eaters in Kenya satisfied their cravings with some healthy food – with Bio Fresh Whole Milk 1L being the most ordered grocery item.

“It’s always 1 PM on Uber Eats: Eaters have shown an interesting trend of placing orders at 1 PM, particularly on Sundays, which might mean that traditional workday lunch hours are seeping into the weekend,” said the platform in their report.
