SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to extended action from La Liga and Serie A, with matches scheduled to run from Tuesday 21 to Wednesday 22 December 2021.

DStv and GOtv are the only true home of football in Africa, offering a range and depth of action that no other rival can match – it’s literally ‘Unbeatable Football’! If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be on the best football in the world.

SuperSport is also the only place to get English commentary on the legendary La Liga, where the top match in this set of catch-up clashes sees Sevilla host Barcelona at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Los Nervionenses very much have an identity and style of playing under manager Julen Lopetegui, and it has seen them establish themselves as outsiders for the title (and likely top-four finishers). Barcelona, by contrast, is in transition under manager Xavi Hernandez, but there are promising signs that the Blaugrana will play some fine football under the guidance of their former legendary midfielder.

“I think we’re on the right path, but we need to win,” Xavi explained. “I don’t think what is missing are goals. What we’re missing is to be more dare upfront. We are living in a moment of urgency. We can’t afford to lose anymore, we have to win every game.”

Another key clash in this final burst of La Liga action for 2021 sees Athletic Bilbao welcome Real Madrid to San Mames Barria. The Basque club would love to claim the scalp of Los Blancos, but Carlo Ancelotti’s side has shown great consistency in recent weeks and will be determined to head to the winter break on the back of a good result.

“It will be a difficult game to finish off this part of the season,” admitted Athletic coach Marcelino Garcia Toral. “We know the great quality of our opponents. However, we must focus on the task at hand and play to the best of our abilities. I can ask no more of our players.”

Champions Atletico Madrid will also be in action, as they head to Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes to take on Granada, while Villarreal will welcome Deportivo Alaves to Estadio de la Ceramica. The Yellow Submarine have struggled to score goals this season and will be hoping that the floodgates open against the Babazorros.

“This side is maturing, but we are lacking results and we need to take that next step and continue growing,” said Villarreal manager Unai Emery. “I want to be proud and congratulate my boys, but we need to take the next step to see these results out.”

This final round of Serie A action for the year 2021 opens on Tuesday 21 December with Udinese hosting Salernitana in a match that could have far-reaching implications for the relegation battle. Le Zebrette striker Isaac Success will look to find his way to goal against the strugglers from Campania.

“The coach is a great man and has a great personality, all the staff is of great help to everyone,” said Success, who is on loan at Udinese from Watford. “I know my qualities and I know what contribution I can give to the team, I play with confidence and I always try to do my best.”

Tuesday also features Atalanta away to Genoa at Stadio Communale Luigi Ferraris, as well as Juventus at home to Cagliari. The Bianconeri have fallen short of being title contenders this season, with manager Massimiliano Allegri hoping to have talisman Federico Chiesa back to his best.

“He can be devastating in open spaces. Federico has extraordinary qualities, he is really good technically, he needs to work and improve like everyone else, but I am happy with what he is doing,” said Allegri.

A busy Wednesday 22 December is headlined by Internazionale welcoming Torino to the San Siro, with the Nerazzurri looking to end the year on a high and ensure that they remain very much in the running to defend their championship.

Former Inter defender Daniele Adani feels that manager Simone Inzaghi has done well to rotate his squad without compromising the strength of his team: “Inzaghi is in control of the situation, the players change but not the results, they don’t concede anything at the back and upfront [Edin] Dzeko and the rest are doing very well.”

Wednesday also sees Roma play host to Sampdoria, Lazio will be away to Venezia, AC Milan visit Empoli and Napoli will hope to close out 2021 with an emphatic victory over Spezia at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
